The Big Day

This story demonstrates a story on a couples "Big Day", which is their wedding day. Short of time and already late to the wedding as it is, the spouse races in his Volkswagon Jetta to arrive on time. This video switches back and forth from a nervous bride with chaotic planning and preparation to the fiance in his car, driving through a long distance in what seems like the middle of nowhere. Eventually, he arrives and races into the venue, only to heartrendingly discover his fiance at the alter with another man. Awkward glances are exchanged, and the video ends with an information slide about the car.

Who: Bride Serena, Fiance Nate and intruder, Dan
What: The Big Day (wedding day) of Dan and Serena
When: May 1st, 2014
Where: Hedricksburg, South Carolina
Why: Fiance Nate has always had a questionable loyalty to Serena and is not her true love
How: Races in his Jetta to be at the wedding in time

May 1st, Nate Archibald's wedding day comes soon than he expected. After a crazy bachelor party with his best buds the night before, Nate frantically races across South Carolina in his Jetta to arrive at his wedding in time to marry his questionable love, Serena Van der Woodsen.

"I'm almost there, 5 minutes away," Nate anxiously lies to his fiance over the phone.

Through he and Serena's rocky relationship, Nate has always felt Serena was distant and that maybe there was someone else. In fear of rejection, he proposed to seal the deal.

"Nate, you better be here, or else. Please be punctual for once in you life." Serena harshly lectures Nate.

A dial tone is accompanied by Serena's threat, Nate bangs the steering wheel and thrashes in anger.

"Why am I marrying her? There has to be another way to get over Blair..." Nate questions himself, pondering his past relationship with ex, Blair.

A decline of acceleration in his Jetta jerks Nate away from his thoughts.

"Oh, no. Please. No no no no no!" Nate prays as he discovered his almost empty gas tank.

Using every last drop of gas left, Nate speeds through the countryside and wet, dangerous conditions.

"Tie, check. Rings, check." Nate mentally prepares himself and speeds towards the venue.

Not bothering to even park, Nate races inside, breathless, only to discover a horrifying sight.

"You may kiss the bride." Says the minister as Dan Humphery, Serena's ex and Nate's best man locks lips with Serena.

Awkward glances are exchanged as Nate stands in shock in front of his fiance and best friend, realizing the inevitable.

Final Exam Preview

1.    In this video/reading tutorial, I was taught many aspects of using the very technical and complicating iMovie. The first thing was obviously how to start a new project. There are a couple ways to do this. The key factors of using iMovie, as an overview, are knowing how to open, save and edit a project.
The woman demonstrating the aspects of iMovie was very helpful as she used multiple examples to portray all of iMovie's complex abilities. Some minor yet very rewarding things I learned how to do were certain details, such as adding cool effects like electricity and fairy dust, and changing the font and appearance of text of the screen.

2. One thing I had already previously known about iMovie is the fact that you have to select and drag the clips you want to use in your project in the spots that you want. I knew this because I have used the app once or twice.

3. Today, I learned many new things. One important thing that I learned is that connect your own camera/video device very easily, therefor enabling someone to add there own personal moments to a project.

4. Because iMovie is very technical and confusing, I am concerned that I may make the wrong move and all of my progress will be lost. Or, I will be clueless on how to use it.

5. I am confident that I will be able to complete the project in time and add all the fun and interesting details I would like.

6. Some possible themes I am thinking about completing my project on are something to do with my dogs, documenting one or multiple daily tasks, the progress of my friend's new house being built or nature.

Portfolio Analysis; Part 2

Part 2:

1. I agree with the fact that the judges think that including the subject's face in the photo can go a long way and do a lot for the photo. For example, the face shows emotion which can really contribute to the tone/theme or purpose of the photo.
2. I do not agree with the fact that they call a majority of the photos basic, or just not interesting enough. I think most of the photos are really well taken and can do a lot for the setting and emotions in the photo.

Portfolio Analysis

Video Notes
a.     Name of photographer – Alyssa Schukar
b. General focus of portfolio (photoj, sports, stories, etc.)- Sadness, dark times
c. List three problems that the judges noted with the portfolio – 1. Random switches from sad to happy 2. Lack of emotion 3. Bad cropping
d. List two things the judges like- 1. Use of action photos 2. The picture of the man in a hat sweeping the streets
e. What is your overall impression of the photographer? What did you like or not like? I feel that the photographer was originally aiming for a negative portfolio but slacked off because happy moments tend to tell a better story. I like the emotional connections some of the photos portrayed.

2. Watch the winning portfolio critique (Dustin Snipes), and post the following:

a. What did the judges note as strengths as they were critiquing it? Nice color composition, photographer almost is “running with the pack”
b. What do you see as strengths? Do you see any weaknesses?  Good action shots, good angles, every subject is doing something. Weakness: too much photoshop

3. Watch the contest recap video at the very bottom.

a. Briefly describe the process the judges went through in deciding the winner.
To decide the winner, the judges looked for emotional attachments, uniqueness, color (black & white), theme of portfolio (sports), diversity, and good editing.

a. Name of photographer – Anthony Souffle
b. General focus of portfolio (photoj, sports, stories, etc.)- hardships, emotional moments
c. List three problems that the judges noted with the portfolio – Judges did not portray emotion towards the photos. Just “ok”.
d. List two things the judges like- The judges enjoyed the fact that they could tell what was happening in the photos and the moment it was taken.
e. What is your overall impression of the photographer? What did you like or not like? The photographer was great at showing a background story for the story portion, and just showing emotions in the subjects in general.

a. Name of photographer – Melissa Golden
b. General focus of portfolio (photoj, sports, stories, etc.)- The young or the old, youthful or aging
c. List three problems that the judges noted with the portfolio – Lack of interest, photos didn’t portray enough about the moment, not enough details in the photos to cover background information.
d. List two things the judges like- Use of the black and white filter, good positioning and focusing with portraits
.
e. What is your overall impression of the photographer? What did you like or not like? I liked the angles the photographer used to take these photos. Also, she did a really great job with her photo stories and showing a sequence of events.

This award isn't the result of one sole person's hard work, though.

Shelby Kelly's "family, friends, and teachers" all take great part in Shelby's achievement by showing constant support and love.

Nut Graf

In my opinion, a Nut Graf is the basis of the whole story and provides the roots and structure for the rest of the story. The use of the Nut Graf is very crucial to the story because it provides key information that intrigues readers to read on.

For readers, the Nut Graf is the purpose that the story is being read and is displayed in the second paragraph with further information on the 5 W's and H. With this additional information, a correct structure for the story as a whole.

Warm Up: iPhone Photos

1. My favorite photo on this website is the one of a wide, multiple lane street taken in Denmark. I like it because it is very balanced and taken in black and white and it is kind of taken from a bird's eye view so there is a wide angle to see from.
2. I am very surprised that these photos are all taken from an iPhone. They are such high quality and I rarely take photos like this.
3. I think that the apps used to edit the photos contributed a lot to the outcome of the photos because it is very hard to believe that they are all iPhone photos.
4. One tip I would use to make my photography better on my iPhone is using cool apps to teach myself how to become better. A second tip is that I should focus more on the subject my tapping it and try and blur out the background.

Architecture #2

Details
Habitat 67
This image is a wide shot from the inside the Habitat 67 in Canada. The photo gives insight on the views from actually being inside the structure, a major detail for curious viewers.

Light
Kunsthaus Graz
The light on this building is important because it adds to the structure as a whole. There are tiny dots made of artificial white light, which light up at night.

Patterns
Nautilus House
The patterns on this structure are very important because they make up the whole building. The colorful mosaic on the left had many repeating shards or color making round swirls, and on the right, brown thick streaks are repeated and lead viewers' eyes to the point.

Angles and Shapes
Nord LB Building
The Nord LB Building is a great example of perpetual angles and shapes. The building is made of of multiple cube-like figures that stack up creating a sort of stair case. The angles of this building are especially cool because it will look different from every angle because it is not symmetrical.

Surroundings
Atomium
The Atomium is a structure with very unique qualities; therefore it sticks out like a thumb compared to its surroundings. The fact that it has its own parking lot and freshly manicured field doesn't help with how much it stands out because it is supposed to, so tourists will be intrigued.
